as most of you know, september is THE month for magazines. there was a whole documentary for god's sake on the september issue.
anyways, here goes. this year's september magazines were less than impressive.
while i could go through all of them, i don't want to :) but here are the ones that stuck out as slightly disappointing.
the famed september vogue. here with the lovely halle berry - the second black woman to grace the mag's september cover ever.
i looked through it. just didn't grab me. and the choice for halle berry, well she hasn't done anything and while she's lovely, i don't want to think vogue just put her on the cover because they had waiting super long to get a little more diverse.
now i loves me some glamour. i do. but this cover choice was odd. again, jennifer lopez is a cool lady, but i was expecting a more explosive cover choice. so i was disappointed cover-wise here, but content-wise, glamour delivered again. i particularly enjoyed the article by financial wise-guy zac bissonnette, and the piece on six secrets to rule the world by gossip columnist liz smith.
i never buy this mag. i love reading it in hair salons, other people's homes, etc. but i figured i'd try it out. how september is this cover?! i love the colours. the arrangement. and part of me wants to be the one who gets to arrange this kind of stuff. it's full of neat little tricks and i was kind of in love with the "real steals" section. the clothes weren't old-lady-ish (not saying old lady is bad, but i can't do old lady...one day i will, with aplomb). i tried one of the looks and it got a lot of compliments! oddly enough, the "make over my home office" piece was so interesting! it makes me want to re-do my home...office? whatever. re-do something.
canadaaaaaaa! here's flare scoring a good opportunity by throwing on doutzen kroes, victoria's secret angel and louis vuitton's talked-about fall/winter 2010 runway model. good issue. she's styled well for her bombshell shape. inside: sometimes flare's articles seem flippant, and not tailored to their reader...like to how their reader should be thinking, but it had some breakouts in this one. "how not to be a starter wife" featured great couples advice in a non-corny way. and i really loved the piece on bullying...sure, sounds school yard-ish but seriously, it's happening in workplaces and friendships, so it was great they shed light on it.
anyways, those are some of the wins and losses. i realize there are more wins, but i'm a naturally optimistic person so we're going to go with it :)
