Nylon magazine has carved out a niche for itself in a world of mags. I admire it for its staying power - particularly because it's remained unique, whereas other magazines have failed - perhaps because they followed a formula that wasn't breaking any new ground?
Reading Nylon brings me back to high school...I want to throw on something striped, something colourful, some funky shades and have an ice cream cone at an art festival. It's free-spirited, spunky, and reminiscent of the 80s.
It's layout feature wearable, hip clothing that when thrown together - and anyone could throw them together, not just people who still buy records - look confident.
The March issue features a quissential Nylon girl - Twilight (and coming out in March, Adventureland) star Kristen Stewart. She exemplies the kind of rebellion against the norm that Nylon encourages, and the idea that you should be real.
Another favourite layout is "Frame of Reference" where a model recreates the style of painters such as Pollock and and (my favourite photo) Magritte through clothing and jewelry.
Before readers begin thinking this is a shameless promotion of Nylon - it is. For people who want to try something different, I'd encourage you to pick it up. It needs to be kept on shelves, not only to keep the industry alive, but also for its devoted following.
Kristen Stewart bores me.. shes too badass, its obvious its a ploy.
lol. love her outfit tho!
